Hi/こんにちは! My name is Yumeka Hildreth, and I am a half-Japanese soprano hailing from Aotearoa New Zealand and currently based in Vancouver, BC. As a vocal tutor, I previously taught at the University of Canterbury as well as privately at my home studio and at local schools back in my home country. As a performing singer, I have performed in concert halls locally and in Victoria, Montreal, and in Austria. Performing credits include the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, the Christchurch Cathedral Choir (Vancouver), the Toi Toi Opera Company (Ōtautahi Christchurch), and the International Akaroa Music Festival (NZ). I had the privilege of extending my performance studies at the prestigious Académie Orford Musique and the Franz Schubert Institut, where I performed in masterclasses of some of the world's leading Lieder artists, including Robert Holl, Elly Ameling, Roger Vignoles, and Helmut Deutsch.

Lessons with Yumeka:

Supporting aspiring singers to unleash their potential and overall confidence in themselves is at the core of why I love to teach. Through a holistic and science-based (and fun!) approach, I strive to teach collaborative and personalised lessons for students of all ages and backgrounds, creating a clear and adaptable lesson structure suited to their needs.

My lessons are a safe and non-judgmental space, where students can be themselves and learn at their own desired pace, with positive reinforcement and encouragement. We can work on anything you need from improving the following: developing healthy technique and overall vocal practice (building from a classical foundation of singing), music theory knowledge and score reading, lyric diction (e.g German, Italian, French), as well as working on stage presence and overcoming performance anxiety.

If I can help guide your preparation for a singing exam, theatre audition, etc., or you just want to work on your overall technique, I’m here to support you and cheer you on! It would be a privilege and a joy to be a small part of your musical journey. I look forward to working with you.
